Can Amy Acton Flip Ohio? Inside an Ohio State Tailgate
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
An Ohio State tailgate, an Amazon data center run-in, and Brian’s old professor Amy Acton running for Ohio governor. 19 days out, the vibes are up.
Glennis is back from Ohio, where the tailgates at The Shoe showed real spirit for Sherrod Brown and creator Eumie Shin caught a MAGA fan blaming Joe Biden, not the war in Iran, for gas prices. Then the Russian diesel deal: Trump wants to buy Russian diesel to bring down prices at the pump, a bipartisan group of senators wants him to reverse course, and Brian explains why it’s a political stunt that wouldn’t cover a single day of U.S. diesel demand.
Plus: Jon Ossoff vs. Mike Collins, round two in Georgia (an Olympian vs. a normal guy, per Brian). The New York Times reports Elon Musk has now spent $366 million on the midterms, and Brian makes the case for Everyone vs. Elon. New press secretary Katie Zacharia’s first briefing brings a “my president, excuse me, my husband” slip and the news that the White House asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as ambassador to Greece over a reported request to cover a $100,000 Amex bill. Guilfoyle denies the allegations. Brian explains why Bravo-style corruption is finally breaking through with voters.
Also: a masked, shirtless protester at Lula’s São Paulo rally becomes the internet’s crush, and an Indiana city council forum goes very viral. The Oath Candidate of the Week is Amy Acton, running for Ohio governor against Vivek Ramaswamy, and yes, she was Brian’s advisor at Ohio State. Find her at oath.vote. Then a Good Vibe Goodbye from New York City, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Council Speaker Julie Menin struck a deal to end horse-drawn carriages by June 2028. Big Horse Lobby, you’ve been warned.

Oh my God, we just got a new inflation report in. I'm Brian Derrick.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:And I'm Glennis Meagher. Welcome to Vibes Only.
BRIAN DERRICK:Welcome back.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Welcome back to Vibes Only.
BRIAN DERRICK:Glennis is back from my home state of Ohio, where the tailgates showed plenty of spirit for Sherrod Brown, but our creator interviews showed a lot of misinformation on gas prices is sinking in as the war in Iran adds about $2,000 a year to your cost of living.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Trump's answer is buying Russian oil. It's a political stunt that won't help anyone at the pump. While he has tripled his net worth and continues to be corrupt as hell-
BRIAN DERRICK:Elon has now dropped $370 million in the midterm elections. Jon Ossoff destroyed Mike Collins again in their debate. The new press secretary called Trump her husband. Thom Tillis is on a book tour, lol.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Kimberly Guilfoyle has fallen from grace, and Amy Acton for Ohio governor is our Oath Candidate of the Week.
BRIAN DERRICK:Mamdani is ending NYC horse carriages, and out of a million people rallying for Lula in São Paulo, the internet fell in love with one really, really hot guy.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay, Brian, let's get into it.
BRIAN DERRICK:It's the final countdown. Ba-da-na-na. Hi, G.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Hey, Brian. How are you?
BRIAN DERRICK:Three weeks to go. Not even.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I know. It's crazy. I was in Ohio this past weekend. Can I just say, I didn't realize The Shoe, the stadium for OSU, was that big. I felt like we were at an NFL arena.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. Every Saturday- It's- … of my entire college experience was spent at The Shoe.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Wait, I didn't realize you went to OSU.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah, girl.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Wait, this is- Go
BRIAN DERRICK:Bucks… GLENNIS MEAGHER: completely I have a shirt for you. I went to Ohio State. I was on homecoming court.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Wait, I saw homecoming court people, and I was like, "Royalty." They were like walking past me.
BRIAN DERRICK:That was
GLENNIS MEAGHER:me. Wow. Wow, my mind is blown now that I've been im- immersed- in the tailgate environment. But we talked to some really, really diehard MAGA people. It was- Uh-oh … crazy, blaming- Yeah … gas prices on Joe Biden, and when asked about it, having no answer whatsoever. We also- … Brian, got kicked out of a data center. That was my first time getting kicked out of a data center. How'd you
BRIAN DERRICK:get into a data center?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:They're open. Like, they're open. It doesn't say- No, they're not. Yes, they are. Yes, they are. There's no private property anywhere, and this was an Amazon data center. And we were just in the parking lot, and they had, like, some unmarked car come up and, like, kick us out, recording us. Very, very sus. I'm like, "Amazon, what are you hiding? What are you hiding?" Okay, wait.
BRIAN DERRICK:So you were, just to clarify , you were in the parking lot?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Correct.
BRIAN DERRICK:Not like- Of the data center … in the servers plugging USB sticks in- No, you
GLENNIS MEAGHER:can't.
BRIAN DERRICK:No … like you're in Mission Impossible.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:No. Yeah, I was not having my, like, Ocean's 8 moment , but- The fuck? I was in the parking lot, and it was, it escalated very quickly. And we've been to other data centers where they're just like, "Hey, you can't be here." And we were like, "Okay." And Amazon was like-
BRIAN DERRICK:Tased you straight away… GLENNIS MEAGHER: sus. And it, I was like, "Bad vibes. What are you trying to hide?" But data centers are a huge topic in Ohio, for those who don't know. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. And I'm very glad that you got to experience an Ohio State game, because for people who did not go to state school, it is a different world. Politically, culturally- Mm-hmm… it's, it's quite an experience. I think everyone should go once.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Mm-hmm. I'm still like, wow. I, I was blown away by the stadium and the tailgate zone and the thousands and thousands of people that I interacted with. And you know what I learned? That you guys cross all your M's out.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. Just for the week of- Mm … the week of the Michigan game at Ohio State, every single M on every single sign on all of campus, Ohio State's campus is huge, is crossed out. So street signs, building names, any plaque, like literally anything anywhere, the M's all get crossed out the week of the Ohio State game.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Culture. Culture. Yeah. I love it.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. TBT, I haven't been back in, like, a decade.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Ugh, I should've brought you with me. Are you kidding me?
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah, that would've been fun.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:Well- Would've been fun. Next time.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:2028, Brian.
BRIAN DERRICK:All right. Should we get into all the hot goss of politics this week?'Cause it's very gossipy.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. What a week. Let's, let's get into it.
BRIAN DERRICK:Where do we wanna begin? Do we wanna start with the text message scandal or the oil scandal or the Elon Musk scandal, or it's just scandal, scandal city.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Maybe we should go with like, uh, kind of gravity. So like, the oil and Elon Musk to me has direct implications- Mm on every single American's lives. Whereas Kimberly Guilfoyle saying,"Daddy pay off $100,000 Amex bill," and then getting fired on- Queens… on national television by the new train wreck of a press secretary. That's fodder for you and I. But let's start with the oil, the diesel. Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yes. As we've talked about many times, gas prices are one of the most visible and immediately felt economic indicators in the country. Jobs numbers, unless you are personally without a job, are pretty abstract, whereas gas prices you see every day when you're driving, and you feel when you go to the pump once a week.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:And diesel specifically, most trucks and any sort of transportation for all of our goods run on diesel. The current price of diesel is about 6.20 to 6.50 a gallon. That is one of the reasons why everything is more expensive.
BRIAN DERRICK:100%. And so Republicans facing annihilation in the midterms, right? Just, just what, where the polling is at is showing horrible numbers for Republicans, are looking for any way to try to chip away at gas prices as a Democratic talking point because, I mean, it's not just a talking point. Trump started a war, it closed the Strait of Hormuz - … and gas prices doubled. Like, it's very, it's very- Yeah… transparent for anyone to see.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I wanna, I wanna play… We should like, we should roll this clip. This is one of the clips that we got from this weekend where Eumie, who's like a great creator, asks this OSU fan about… I'll send it to you. But they, they're not even willing to admit that it's like the reason that gas prices are so high. Let me p- play it for you.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Can I get your thoughts on gas prices?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:They suck.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):They fucking suck?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:Yeah.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Why is that?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:Because they're high as fuck.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Why do you think they're high as fuck?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:Um, because we had a Democrat in office for a very, very long time. I know it's Joe Biden's fault.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Oh, wait, why is that?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:Because he's an asshole.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Do you think the war in Iran has anything to do with it?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:No.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):No? You don't think so? You don't think it's like the Strait of Hormuz or anything?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:No. Being a, being a veteran myself, like I served two tours.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Mm-hmm.
TRUMP SUPPORTER:So gas prices have really nothing to do with war.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Really? Ab- You don't think the fact that like the channel where all of the oil goes through, like the fact that that's closed maybe has something to do with rising gas prices? No.
TRUMP SUPPORTER:No.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):Really?
TRUMP SUPPORTER:No.
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):So, um, how are the high gas prices Joe Biden's fault?
BRIAN DERRICK:Okay.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. So anyway- Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:H-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yes.
BRIAN DERRICK:That's so wild. That is not our median voter, let me tell you. Even in Ohio, that's not a median voter. I get to do press control. That is a Fox News, Newsmax, OANN Kool-Aid drinker.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yes.
BRIAN DERRICK:Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Correct. Correct. So that's, that's wild. However, we know, to your point, that the unconstitutional war in Iran Has made gas prices higher
BRIAN DERRICK:Right. And that has, as you said, increased the price of everything. Just while recording, we got the latest inflation report, and it just jumped again. Gas prices up 34%, and that's pushing overall inflation numbers up where we're now almost at double the inflation rate that Biden-- when Biden left office, which is obviously what so directly undercuts the argument that it was Joe Biden's fault. That's-- it's just, like, silly in every sort of possible respect.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:The Republicans have a huge problem on their hands. Because of the unconstitutional war and all of the bullshit that Trump has put us through and other countries through, our cost of living is markedly higher. So Trump, the man who said that he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine in twenty-four hours, cut to two, two years later, it's still raging. Hundreds of thousands of people have died. Aligning the United States of America with Russia To end sanctions on Russian gas exports, gas and diesel exports, and said, "You know what? Actually, we're gonna take 300,000 tons of Russian diesel to lower…" Which we obviously know is to attempt to lower the cost of diesel for Americans, for the world. But now we are aligning ourselves. It is the most undemocratic- Yeah … un-American thing possible.
BRIAN DERRICK:But I just wanna be clear, we're not taking it, we're buying it. We're gonna give Russia- We're buying it … who we are sanctioning the shit out of currently- Mm-hmm … a bunch of money. Like, the, it's-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:To kill more Ukrainians
BRIAN DERRICK:it's the opposite. Ex- it's a, it's funding Russia's war against Ukraine in order to do nothing. It's a political stunt. It's less than one day of diesel in the US. Like, it, it would not even scratch the surface of the amount required to start reducing prices. And so Trump had a little bit of, like, a one, two, three, four blunder. Kind of a like, all, all in a row, just dominoes. So said that he was going to buy all of this Russian diesel. Republican senators immediately started coming out saying,"Absolutely not. We're introducing a bill to stop this. No fucking way." Yeah. Then he tweeted or whatever the hell about, um- Truth … Zelenskyy saying Ukra- Ukraine needs a new leader. Um- I saw that … and that they should take any deal that Russia offers them. And then he wrote off a bunch of reports that are showing how Russia is funding the war in Iran and giving them classified intel on US troop movements and placements to help Iran- Wow … attack the US in the Middle East. And then he doubled down when all these Repu- Republican senators said, "Absolutely we cannot fund Russia's global violence through purchasing diesel." He said, "Nope. We're gonna give 'em a bunch of money." So it's overall been a horrific week for foreign affairs for the US, and T- Trump just continuing to dig himself a hole.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I mean, Trump hates America. He hates you, he hates America. He only loves himself and his family and the people that he can personally enrich with his actions.
BRIAN DERRICK:Me, me personally or everyone listening?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Everyone. Trump hates everyone.
BRIAN DERRICK:Like, okay, that's kind of mean for a Wednesday morning.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:He does
BRIAN DERRICK:though. Maybe Trump hates you, Glennis.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:He for sure hates me. I'm a strong, independent woman. Of course he hates me. Like- Everything he does is deeply anti-American, and it, I just don't understand how any MAGA Republican is like, "He's my man. He's my man."
BRIAN DERRICK:Well, should we talk about the public execution?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:You know, I feel bad 'cause we were talking about a firing squad at the end of last week's episode because- Oh, no … we were talking about the death
BRIAN DERRICK:penalty. I was talking about the- Um … Ossoff-Mike Collins debate.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh, okay. But, um- I thought you… Okay, I thought you were gonna talk about the fact that the United States government plans on live streaming a firing squad. But let's table that- … 'cause that's just dark sided, uh, and deeply depressing, and let's talk about Georgia.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. I mean, we, we got another debate last night, Mike Collins v Jon Ossoff, and then there was also another Troy Jackson, Susan Collins debate. And I think we had… Oh yeah, and Ashley Hinson versus Josh Turek in Iowa. Yeah. So three battleground Senate debates. Ossoff is definitely the best one to watch- Mm … because it is like watching… You know how whenever the Olympics are on, people are always like, "We should put a normal person to run next to them- … so we can see how fast they really are."
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah.
BRIAN DERRICK:That is like watching Mike Collins debate Jon Ossoff. Yeah. It is an Olympian dismembering someone on stage on live television. It's really wild to watch.
JON OSSOFF:It's worth reminding everybody that while you pay more for everything, when it costs more than any time in American history to power your home, stock your fridge, fill up your truck because of the tariffs Mike Collins voted for, because of the war Mike Collins continues to defend, because of the healthcare cuts he voted for, Donald Trump is enriching himself and his family to the tune of billions of dollars. I wonder if Mike Collins can defend that. I wonder if Mike Collins can defend voting to double your health insurance premiums. You didn't explain it last week, Mike. Why did you vote to double health insurance premiums for your own constituents? Repres- thank you, Rep-
BRIAN DERRICK:I don't know who was on Mike Collins' team. They've never- Do you- … done debate prep before in their life. Let me tell you, it's-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: it's really bad. And how about the other ones? Josh Turek is a actual former Olympian. Um, how did he do?
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. I didn't watch the whole thing. I saw clips. Fine. I think he, I think he's- I mean, Ash- I think he's good. He's solid. The, the trick of running in a place like an Ohio or an Iowa, and we, we've kind of talked about this before, is that at least in recent history Voters really like a sleepy milquetoast candidate, and getting a fiery, fiery sparks at a debate isn't actually necessarily what the strategy is to try to win over these voters that generally don't like either party and generally think that DC is a swampland and like blah, blah, blah. So an Abdul El-Sayed type of confrontation or sort of Jon Ossoff level of throwing haymakers may not be the best path for them, but it certainly didn't have the virality.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Sure. Right. Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:He did bait Ashley Hinson into some important errors that they can throw into their ads- Great … and whatnot moving forward. Yeah.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:She's a train wreck. Okay. I have to watch the debate. I'm going to Georgia this weekend, so I will watch the debate. I mean, he's a great orator. He's a great orator, which is an extremely important characteristic to have as a politician in this media environment.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. Tea. Okay, let's talk about Elon Musk.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Ugh, what a piece of shit. So in case you missed it, The New York Times had new reporting on Monday. This is the man, Brian, who said, "I'm gonna pull back." After DOGE and how everyone was like, "You're a piece of shit. We hate you," and then the whole meltdown, lest we forget the 24-hour like Twitter battle between Elon Musk and Trump or Truth Social battle, whatever that was. He has now, since July Put in an additional $276 million?
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. Crazy, crazy. I know that we talk about these huge numbers in campaigns all the time, and I think it's hard for people to really conceptualize what a big amount of money is when we're always talking in the millions or hundreds of millions of dollars. This is unprecedented spending, especially for a midterm cycle. Barack Obama's entire 2012 re-election campaign, a presidential campaign, cost about 750 million. And so for some-- for an individual person to spend$370 million is insane. It's why on Oath we launched the Everyone vs. Elon campaign because- Hmm that's what it really feels like. It takes all of us just to counteract the weight of one man. And there's a lot of reasons why a lot of that money's actually gonna be set on fire, and it's actually going to, like, consultants and things that aren't gonna change the actual, like- Yeah … electoral map. But it's still horrifying and points to how broken our system is, that one person can do that.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah, I was reading this morning, I mean, 76 million of it is going to door-knocking, 20 million went to the Congressional Leadership Fund, and that's for House Republicans, 10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC in support of Ken Paxton. Good luck with that. 10 million to Republican Governors Association, and two million to the Republican AGs. You, you had posted on, on Instagram, like, "Vote like you're being robbed in broad daylight." And when you, when you put all of the pieces together of this, like, blatant corruption across the board, whether it be Elon Musk single-handedly putting in $276 million, and then his companies over the course of the last two years getting at least eight billion dollars in government contracts, like that should chap everyone's ass. While also, while he was in government dismantling some of our most important civic offices.
BRIAN DERRICK:Right.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Or, you know, I heard on the news yesterday, on NPR, that MAGA Inc. spent another 10 million of taxpayer dollars on Trump ads. They said they were gonna stop doing that. That's more money. It's just so ridiculous. So vote like you're being robbed in broad daylight.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah, you're, you're right because we, we really are. It's horrifying and frustrating the many thousands of dollars that-- of my personal tax money that is being driven directly into the bank accounts of Trump's family and his biggest donors. It's horrifying to me. And we have the chance to put a serious-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Stopgap on it.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah … block on, on their ability to do that. There's been a, a less of a focus than I expected maybe on the big beautiful bill in the midterms. But every single tax bracket is paying more under Donald Trump except for the top 10%.
KATIE ZACHARIA:Yeah.
BRIAN DERRICK:Like everyone else is screwed. That's why we're being robbed in, in broad daylight, is they're cutting our services and taking more money from you. Like that's what's so infuriating.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. I think also with the big beautiful bill, MAGA murder budget, whatever you wanna call it, a lot of those tax incentives don't go into place, and for the top 10% and the losses for the rest of us don't go into place until 2027. And they did that strategically and deliberately so that when people were going to the polls in 2026, they wouldn't feel the hit that this bill is going to give them with regards to their take-home money at the end of the day. Right.
BRIAN DERRICK:Aye, aye, aye.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Aye, aye, aye. Wait, can we talk shit for one second?
BRIAN DERRICK:Tummy
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Did you see the new press secretary's first press- I've, uh- conference yesterday? And then it was like a double whammy, and then they announced, like, the new ambassador at large for human trafficking. Did you see this?
BRIAN DERRICK:I saw a press release about the ambassador thing, and I saw clips of the first press conference, but I need to watch the whole thing. I, I heard it's very short because they just, she pulled the rip cord and, and ran away. But
EUMIE SHIN (@EUMIEXX):yikes.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:It was really, really, really bad. It kinda reminded me of that, like, Miss America competition when the woman, like, really just, like, can't… I feel, I feel bad. But, like, being the empath that I am, I was like, "Wow, this is the worst moment in this woman's life." Like, she was reading, she was reading, like, you know, in parentheses they'll have, like, how you should, uh, deliver the line, and it was like,"With energy and excitement." And she was like- No … "With energy and excitement, we say…" Yeah. No. Yeah, it was so bad. And then she had a gaffe where she was talking, like, someone was like, "Are you gonna be home t- be at home at night for your kids or whatever?" And she's like, "Well, my, my president, uh, uh, ooh, I mean my husband, ha, ha, ha."
KATIE ZACHARIA:I adore my family. I love them. They are my priority. They, I, I love being with my kids. The idea of not spending evenings with my kid, uh, kids are, is completely, uh, unacceptable. So my president, or excuse me, my husband, uh, that's a, that's a good one. My husband is-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Like, totally gaffed who her husband was. So amateur. So amateur. Wow. Like, so mortifying. But we gotta take the wins.
BRIAN DERRICK:It does say a lot that they threw her up there her second day o- on the job after being announced. And I think that that's noteworthy, not because it explains why she was bad, but because it explains their expectations. Their expectations of the press secretary role- Mm are that you already have the talking points. You don't need to know anything new. You don't need to know anything that's actually going on in the administration. You don't need any onboarding or training, because your job is to get up there and lie and defend- Mm-hmm … every single thing that Donald Trump says or does, no matter what it is, and make it sound true and make it sound right. And so- Well … why would you need a week to prepare on every individual update on every agency in the federal government so that you can answer questions about it, which is your actual job? Why would you need to do that if your job is to get up there and say, "Donald Trump was right. Democrats are the problem. You guys are fake news"? Like, that's what they
GLENNIS MEAGHER:think- She's not even there yet… BRIAN DERRICK: the job is. I know.
BRIAN DERRICK:Right.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Right. She's gotta go work on that. She's gotta go work on that because it was a little too feeble and unprepared. There was no, like, delusions of grandeur, and there was no, like- True excitement for the lies. It was just, it was bad. Um- Right. I mean,
BRIAN DERRICK:you have to be a sociopath to- Totally … lie instinctually without blinking. Totally. Or, or with any, with no kind of like prep or, or training. Like Karoline Leavitt I'd be a sociopath. Like, like it-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:No, totally
BRIAN DERRICK:It's a
GLENNIS MEAGHER:gift Well, psycho maybe.
BRIAN DERRICK:But, um- And you
GLENNIS MEAGHER:know what?
BRIAN DERRICK:Regardless.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Karoline Leavitt was and is violent with her words and actions, and the fact that she glossed over so many things that directly or indirectly killed American citizens, so…
BRIAN DERRICK:Somebody asked me to do a panel with Karine Jean-Pierre-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh
BRIAN DERRICK:in a couple of weeks. And I said, "Are you trying to get covered on TMZ? Because there's about to be a, a literal fight if you think that I'm gonna-" Yeah "… sit on a panel with her and not say anything." Holy shit.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. For those who for- forgot, she wrote a book.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah, that was Biden's press secretary who then wrote a book.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Don't give anyone any more pens to write a book.
BRIAN DERRICK:Oh my God. Like, it's over. Especially Thom Tillis, the worst- Did he
GLENNIS MEAGHER:write a book?… BRIAN DERRICK: press tour Yes. And he went on tour trying to be like, "I'm the sane one. We have to bring everyone back to the middle." And everyone's like, "You voted for Pete Hegseth. How's that going?" Yeah. Like, like they tore him- Yeah … apart. Okay, we have to talk about my new hero. I saw this in the show notes and, uh, I, I need a full too long, didn't read. I don't know who this
BRIAN DERRICK:is. It's been a while since something has… Two, two things actually have gone explosively viral in my internet.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:One is the hot guy from the Lula rally in Brazil. You didn't see this?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Never heard of him. No.
BRIAN DERRICK:Holy- This
GLENNIS MEAGHER:is very, this is very
BRIAN DERRICK:man- There is a rally- Okay.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay. Masked shirtless protester becomes Brazil's internet crush at Lula rally. This
BRIAN DERRICK:guy? Not just Brazil. The world's internet crush. Yes, that guy.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Um- You guys are so stupid. Oh my God.
BRIAN DERRICK:Okay. He got, he got, like, 250,000 Instagram followers overnight because he was hot. Hold-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:The hottie from Paulista… BRIAN DERRICK: standing up a Brazilian flag, whatever. Okay, so that went super viral. And then the second thing to go viral is a woman who's running for city council in Indiana last night showed up to a candidate forum, and she gave an interview, and she's slurring her words, and the internet is ablaze with clips from this thing. One of the questions is, what would you do in office that not all of your voters would agree with? And she thinks about it- Wait, she a Republican or Democrat?
BRIAN DERRICK:Democrat.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh, God. Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:This is either gonna really help her or really hurt her. She goes, "Huh?" And she has to re-ask the question 'cause she forgets what the question was. Oh, my God. And then they, and then they reestablish what the question is, and she goes, "Fire all the Republicans." "I don't like them." Honestly, though."I don't talk to them. I really don't want to see them." She gives the most unhinged responses. And then at the end they go,"Is there anything else that your voters should know?" And she thinks about it and goes, "We got guns, too."
JAIME WEST:What is the one decision that I would make? Hmm Repeat that again. What is the one decision that I would make that n- might not be popular with Fayette County? Right, that may be
MODERATOR:unpopular-
JAIME WEST:Correct … with some voters Unpopular with some voters.
MODERATOR:But is in the best interest of the county.
JAIME WEST:Mm. Firing all Republicans. I wouldn't let them, I mean, I don't even talk to them. I don't like them. But, you know, what are you gonna do?
MODERATOR:Well, that brings us to, um, your opportunity to, um, say just a few last words to, um, to the voters. Hmm
JAIME WEST:We have guns too
MODERATOR:All right. Well, as a reminder, the general election is November 3rd. Early voting began October 6th.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh my
BRIAN DERRICK:God. It is a truly wild interview. She's a small business owner. She runs her own cleaning business, uh, in Indiana. Pretty wild stuff.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Honestly, let's see how the message lands. Let's see. Maybe people are like,"Yeah, we do have guns too."
BRIAN DERRICK:Watch it if you need a little, a little laugh today.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Do you think she's gonna have to do, like, a crisis comms tour and be like, "I'm seeking help"?
BRIAN DERRICK:Oh, I
GLENNIS MEAGHER:think she's gonna be-
BRIAN DERRICK:Or is it just-… like, a superstar of the internet.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay. Wait. Also, I just opened Threads, which I never do. Of course, the first link for this masked protester, and I see why people are in a frenzy about him. He- He's hot. You can't even see his face. You're just, like, commenting on his body, which is-
BRIAN DERRICK:I saw his face 'cause it was revealed later who he was.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh.
BRIAN DERRICK:And he
GLENNIS MEAGHER:is- Is this in New York or Brazil?
BRIAN DERRICK:Brazil.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Oh, okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:Babe. What? I would already be dating him if it was in New York.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:You'd be like,"Knock, knock. I found you." I got assaulted with… I, I feel bad commenting on this woman's face, but at the end of the day, it is gender-affirming care what she's done to her face. Have you seen the… This is the new-
BRIAN DERRICK:Human
GLENNIS MEAGHER:trafficking zone … it's
BRIAN DERRICK:not right. Is that the human trafficking zone?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. There's so many, like, bad jokes to be made about that and… So this one is all over my For You page. Have you seen this? It's, like, a drag queen getting ready. No. And it's like, "This person has made a plan to vote. Did you?" And it's like, "Yes, queen, I have." Like, this makes me wanna vote more.
BRIAN DERRICK:I don't think you're the target audience for that content.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I know. I know. I know. She must have had, like, multiple face lifts, and then finally got, like, an upper face lift, and they've made her forehead at least, like, four inches larger. It's literally crazy, and I, I, I feel… Again, I feel bad making fun of someone and the way they look, but at the end of the day, all of these MAGA Republican women have gender-affirming care.
BRIAN DERRICK:T. T. Did we already talk about Kimberly Guilfoyle or no?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Round it out really fast. Kimberly Guilfoyle has fallen from grace. She was fired, presumably on live television, by this new train wreck of a press secretary, and said that the Trump administration thanks her for her service. She was the ambassador to Greece, and was named the ambassador to Greece shortly after being broken up with by one of the Trump sons. I don't recall which one. She got caught red-handed because of a leaked text showing she asked a donor to forgive a $100,000 Amex bill, which for those who are new in class, that is a bribe, a textbook bribe from a government official. So.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yia. I think that's how you say bye in Greek. I just Googled it. Someone who speaks Greek- Oh … hit me up. Let me know if that's right. So embarrassing. One of the most most comical cartoonish examples- Mm-hmm … of corruption that we've seen in the last 30 years. And she's the president's daughter-in-law now?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Their engagement got broken off by one of them, and then soon after, her consolation prize for her loyalty or whatever was to become the ambassador to Greece.
BRIAN DERRICK:Oh, I missed that. Okay. Got it.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. No, I'm almost positive she was with the Trump son who just had that Russian wedding, the wedding that was funded by a Russian oligarch. He
BRIAN DERRICK:married someone else.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:He married someone else.
BRIAN DERRICK:Oh, so when did they break up?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Right before she became ambassador to Greece.
BRIAN DERRICK:But that would've been, like, within the last 18 months. You're saying that this, this Trump son was dating this woman as of inauguration, broke up with this woman less than two years ago, started dating a new woman, got engaged to her, and married her. Is that what you're telling me?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. I mean, we
BRIAN DERRICK:have to fact-check
GLENNIS MEAGHER:it.
BRIAN DERRICK:In a Russian-sponsored wedding? I didn't know any of
GLENNIS MEAGHER:this. Yeah.
BRIAN DERRICK:I thought- Yeah … that she was the one in the Russian wedding.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:No, no. He met some, like, Floridian- Oh, yeah … socialite and model.
BRIAN DERRICK:Okay.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:And someone made this cut online. When, you know how she's, like, infamous for being like, "The best is yet to come," and then it's her getting fired, so.
BRIAN DERRICK:That's amazing. Here's what I will say on a serious note is- Mm-hmm corruption, it has not been a major motivating voting issue in the US for a while. Yeah. And we've had a corruption issue. We've needed to ban stock trading and all of these things for a while, and yet it- Mm-hmm … hasn't changed people's support of mostly corrupt Republicans, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But, like, sure, we can both sides it, whatever. It's breaking through the cycle in a way that we have not seen. One, the first, the first reason is just the scale of the corruption, that there's, like, a, a true departure in just the amount and brazenness of the corruption going on. Trump tripling his net worth in two years is why. And the way that that's been able to break through is that the style of the corruption that's happening is so housewives and so Bravo- Yeah that it is easy for people to understand. It's, like, kind of funny to, to, to talk about, although the, the, the substance of it's not funny at all, and it's memorable. And so Kimberly Guilfoyle texting,"Daddy, please pay my Amex bill. Don't put this in a Signal, LOL," or whatever, it's, like, cartoonish. It's something that you would watch on a reality show, and that's one of the reasons that it's breaking through because anyone can go recount that story, whereas if I ask you to tell someone about Nancy Pelosi's stock trades or whatever- Mm-hmm that have been an issue, that have been at issue for, for years Then it's kind of like, well, she did some stuff she, she shouldn't have done. She probably knew some information, and then it was the husband's broker. Like, it's like, what? You know what I mean? Like, it doesn't stick in the same way. But the whole conversation we, that we just had about the president's slutty son Treating these women this way and the women being- Yeah like absolute-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Scapegoats.
BRIAN DERRICK:Also- Scapegoats, but also just morally bankrupt-
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yes.
BRIAN DERRICK:Just- Yeah … openly, brazenly so corrupt- Yeah … is what makes this all sticky in the minds of voters, and why people are gonna punish Republicans in November like never before.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. And just to add to that, one, we have seen with the Trump administration it is always the women first to fall and be thrown under the bus. That's just- Right … the, the nature of the misogynistic administration that he has created. But then also, to add to that, the corruption is directly tied to the cost of living in America. Like, we're seeing it, people are seeing it, they're feeling it. And because those two are tied, because the corruption is really tangible, to your point, and you can see it online in a, in a 90-second clip and totally understand what is happening, and see that Kimberly Guilfoyle can text someone for a, an Amex bill to be written off at the c- like, at $100,000 is a lot of money. And then to see a news clip saying that because of the war in Iran, your cost of living per household has gone up at least $2,000. Like, people feel it. 100. And they're gonna hopefully- Yeah … bring that to the, to the ballot box.
BRIAN DERRICK:Get 'em. Get 'em.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Before November 3rd,'cause everyone should early vote.
BRIAN DERRICK:That's right. That's right. When does New York early voting start? Are you gonna vote this year?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:LOL.
BRIAN DERRICK:Oh my gosh, it starts in 10 days, on the 24th.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Do you have a voting plan?
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. I always vote early.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:So do I. I like that- At 6:00 AM before work … I voted early s- sticker. Like, I like- Yeah … the sticker that says that I voted early.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I feel like, "Ha ha, I voted."
BRIAN DERRICK:Okay. Well, I do have an Oath Candidate of the, of the Week.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Okay.
BRIAN DERRICK:If you are a listener and have not made a donation on Oath yet, today is the day. You're running out of time for the money to actually make a difference. There's still a bunch of races where $10 can actually really help. So today's the day. Go to the link in the show notes and go support our girl, Amy Acton. Amy Acton- Ohio … is running for governor of Ohio. She was my advisor at Ohio State.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:No
BRIAN DERRICK:way. She was my professor, yes.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:For history?
BRIAN DERRICK:No, for public health when I was a- What? When I was studying public health. Yeah.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Wait, my mom will be very happy to hear that you were studying public health-
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah, I mean, I- as a former
GLENNIS MEAGHER:public health nurse… BRIAN DERRICK: switched out of Um- Wait, so you could have, you could be a public health administrator right now if you, if you- No … if,
BRIAN DERRICK:um- 'Cause I didn't graduate with that degree.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:I know, but, like, there was a part of you that was, like-
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah… GLENNIS MEAGHER: into it. Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, she was amazing. She was an incredible fr- professor, wonderful human, and needs the help. She's running against- Human poop popsicle
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah.
BRIAN DERRICK:Vivek Ramaswamy
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah, horrible person
BRIAN DERRICK:Absolute- Horrible person … garbage man. Yeah. She has a real shot at it, especially with Sherrod Brown on the ticket. Sherrod's been polling- Mm exceptionally well. He's a known quantity running against a Epstein associate in Jon Husted. Protector. Yeah, right.
MODERATOR:Yeah.
BRIAN DERRICK:And so yeah, we have a real shot at it. It's an uphill battle, and Vivek Ramaswamy is self-funding and just taking checks from billionaires flying around in a private jet, which is exactly why $10 for Amy Acton right now- Yeah is a really good idea. So you can go to the link in the show notes and hit her up.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. Ohio, I learned this weekend, truly is like a casualty of big tech coming in and bulldozing, like, the best interests of the people of Ohio, and building all of these data centers that are, like, directly impacting people's electricity bills without any, any community oversight, no votes, no nothing. The people that you're voting for, in Ohio specifically, will start regulating big tech in your state.
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah. Totally. All right, should we send them off with a Good Vibe?
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Yeah. The Good Vibe this week is New York City related. Sorry to those who are not living in Mombadanistan. But we are- Sorry … and we are reaping the benefits of that, which is finally, finally, finally, finally, in 2028, we will see no more horse carriages in the city of New York. This has been an issue for many people for a long time, and yet the horse carriages persisted, and they're just inhumane. Do not live in some Cinderella fantasy in New York City, okay? It's not happening. Yeah. It's too hot. The pavement's too hot. It's too loud. It's a bad environment for a horse. Horses drop dead
BRIAN DERRICK:It's so crazy to anyone outside of New York that this is such a political issue, but it's a- Yeah huge political issue in the city, and mayor after mayor has said that they were gonna do something about it, that there was gonna be some kind of solution. There hasn't been. Horses have died. A tourist died. And now no more. Say goodbye.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Say goodbye.
BRIAN DERRICK:Go get a final ride. Just kidding, don't.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Don't.
BRIAN DERRICK:Um,
GLENNIS MEAGHER:But Brian, to your point, you're right. This is, like, such a hot issue in New York City, and people are probably like, "What are they talking about?" What the fuck? But I think this is a great representation that, like, if you elect people who represent you and represent issues that you care about, some- This was a low-hanging political fruit-
BRIAN DERRICK:Yeah
GLENNIS MEAGHER:policy fruit that, like, Mamdani was like, "Okay, it's done." And again, reminder there, catalyzed by the fact that a tourist was killed when a horse went mad. Yeah But the
BRIAN DERRICK:horse lobby is powerful. The horse carriage lobby in New York is a powerful- I know … special interest group. They've finally been defeated.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Well, we've defeated Big Horse Lobby in New York City, okay?
BRIAN DERRICK:Next up, ketamine.
GLENNIS MEAGHER:Honestly. So bad.
